Officer of the Year
2020 Officer of the Year – Sergeant Jeremy Honeycutt
The Clinton Police Department is very excited to introduce Sergeant Jeremy Honeycutt as our 2020 Officer of the Year. Officers are first nominated by fellow members of the agency, who give details of the employee’s body of work and their conduct for the entire year. It is a prestigious award within the Department because the nominations come from the officer's peers. These nominations are then reviewed by a selection board which includes former recipients of the award. Each member of the board takes the selection seriously as the person’s conduct must truly represent the core values that we all share: Integrity, Professionalism, Respect, and Teamwork.
This year we had a great selection of officers nominated for this honor and being chosen above so many deserving employees is impressive. Sergeant Honeycutt came to the PD from the sheriff’s department in 2018 bringing with him eight years of experience in both patrol and investigations. Since joining our team, he has easily adapted to service within the Clinton Police Department. I believe this is true because he carries a genuine passion and concern for this community and this profession. Throughout 2020 this became evident as he went above and beyond his regular duties and demonstrated the values we treasure. While 2020 limited our ability to participate in community outreach programs, Sgt. Honeycutt always continued to represent the department in the most positive light. He has been a positive influence on younger officers, helping teach and lead them so they understand the benefits of proactive service and creative thinking in police service to address the needs of the community.
Leaders should be recognized for the values and commitment to excellence they instill in their team. It is, in part, his natural leadership style that has helped him earn this award. Since joining the City, Jeremy has been promoted to Corporal and most recently to Sergeant. Even before his promotions he showed an ability to influence and lead others by being positive, approachable, engaged, and committed. These traits carried over to his new roles and his team consistently leads the agency in positive proactive arrests and diversions. Being responsive to the needs of others is essential for us all, but especially for law enforcement today. Sgt. Honeycutt’s team is always responsive and timely when addressing the concerns of citizens and they don’t simply stop at hearing the complaint. If they are able to work further on an issue, Honeycutt’s team will consistently do so.
This past year presented a great number of unique challenges and Sgt. Honeycutt demonstrated his desire to support the mission and objectives of the Clinton Police Department on and off duty on an almost daily basis. I believe Sgt. Honeycutt is and will continue to be an asset to the department and is more than deserving of this award. I am honored to present the 2020 Officer of the Year.
